Not sure what to do with all your kitchen scraps when your outdoor compost pile is covered in 2 feet of snow?  Then you need worms.  Do you have an organic garden?  Then you need worms (and their poop).  Are you worried about the tons of organic wastes NOT being recycled in our community?  Then you need worms.  Composting with worms is easy, takes little space, and is environmentally sound.  In this workshop, you will learn how to compost your vegetable waste/kitchen scraps using worms in an indoor plastic storage tub.

Topics covered will include:
-Setting up your system
-Ongoing care and maintenance of the worms and bin
-What you can put in, what you can't put in
-How to harvest your vermicompost (worm castings)
-Other helpful items to have on-hand
-Uses and benefits of vermicompost (in the garden and environment)
-Troubleshooting
-Mary Appelhof's Worms Eat My Garbage

Workshop will be held at our farm in Jamesport and will last 1-2 hours, depending upon amount of participants.  If you want to take worms and a bin home with you that day, the fee is $65, which includes a used copy of Appelhof's book while supplies last.  If you don't need the book, the fee is $60.  If you have a suitable plastic storage tub, great!  Bring it with you and the fee is $30 for the worm starter culture.  And, if you would like to come learn if worms are for you, you are welcome at no charge, space permitting.  Kids/spouses/family members are all welcome to participate along with you.

If you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask: [email protected].  I love helping set people up with worms to recycle their wastes!
