2024 Full Season Apprentice: **Currently filled for 2024
Immerse yourself in an organic medicinal plant farm! We have one opening for a full season apprentice. This position is approximately 40-50 hours/week, February-November and is a paid position. The full season apprentice is involved in every aspect of the farm (see list below) and acts as an assistant farm manager. Farming, gardening, and herb experience a plus, but candidate must be dependable, independent, hard-working, and able to make a full-time commitment in return for comprehensive training in small scale organic nursery and medicinal plant agriculture. Our season begins with propagation of seedlings in the greenhouse and preparing for our annual spring plant sale, continues with prepping and planting out our medicinal herb beds, harvesting and processing of on-farm herbs, crafting our products, packing and shipping orders. The apprentice will also receive training in: on-farm composting, vermicomposting, free-range egg CSA, and managing volunteers. This is the perfect position for someone looking to change careers to the organic agricultural sector. The ideal candidate has prior farm experience (volunteering ok) with a farmer reference, is comfortable working outdoors all day, year-round, regardless of weather, and loves physical labor. Part-time greenhouse helper/herb harvester and processor:

We are currently seeking a part-time assistant to help with our season.  25 hours/week, somewhat flexible, may include 1-2 Saturdays/month at a farmer’s market.  Must be able to commit through June, ideally through November. Will be involved in all aspects of the herb farm including (but not limited to) seeding, harvesting, drying and processing herbs, planting, potting, watering, weeding, pruning, mowing, cultivating, making herbal products, plant and herb sales, marketing and sales of farm products, packing and shipping orders, organic farming record keeping, and basically helping out anywhere help is needed on the farm.  Interested candidates without prior farm experience are encouraged to participate in our volunteer intern program for at least one season before applying for paid positions. Ideal candidate:

  • has a strong work ethic and at least one season of working farm experience (volunteering ok) with a farmer reference

  • has plenty of farm/garden experience potting, planting , watering, weeding, pruning, caring for annuals and perennials

  • is comfortable working outside all day regardless of weather and is able to meet the physical demands of a farm job

  • is comfortable seeing tasks through to completion without supervision

  • has great social skills and is equally comfortable representing the farm and farm products at farmer’s markets

  • is knowledgeable (or interested in learning) about medicinal herbs and making herbal products

  • can help market herbal farm products via social media and directing marketing

 Compensation: $400/week to start and possible opportunity for full time

2024 Spring/Summer/Fall Volunteer Internships:
We are pleased to offer volunteer internship opportunities spring-fall to those seeking hands-on farming experience. We ask for a 3 month commitment of at least one 5-8 hour shift/week in return for training in small-scale organic herb farming. Prospective volunteers may choose one, two, or all three seasons. Must be dependable, hard-working, and comfortable working outdoors regardless of weather. If interested, please contact Nicole at [email protected].

  • At least one day (5-8 hours)/week for 14 weeks (3 months)—March-May, June-August, September-November

  • Shifts take place M-F, 8am-5pm, with a 1/2-1hr break (depending upon length of shift)

  • Shift start and end times are flexible, but volunteer intern should commit to a regular weekly slot (i.e., Thursdays, 8:30-3:30)

  • Depending upon the season, volunteers will be involved in any of the following: organic seedling propagation, greenhouse record keeping, cuttings, compost tea, seedling sale preparation, soil mixes, prepping garden beds, potting up, planting out, raised bed gardening, weeding, watering, caring for 50 raised beds of various medicinal herbs, compost, vermicompost, harvesting herbs (leaves, flowers, berries, roots), herb drying, processing, storing, organic certification record keeping.

  • Volunteer interns interested in learning about running a free-range flock egg CSA are welcome to help with the chickens

Farm Tasks:
Spring:

  • Seeding and growing seedlings in the greenhouse for seedling sale and starts for the farm

  • Helping feed and maintain our worm bed, harvest castings

  • Prepping, weeding, watering beds in the medicinal herb garden and kitchen garden

  • Planting out seedlings in the medicinal herb garden and kitchen garden

  • Harvesting medicinal herbs

  • Helping during seedling sale weekends

  • Assisting with/preparing for on-farm workshop/tour days and fresh herb share harvest days

Summer:

  • Prepping, weeding, watering beds in the medicinal herb garden and kitchen garden

  • Planting out seedlings in the medicinal herb garden and kitchen garden

  • Helping feed and maintain our worm bed, harvest castings

  • Harvesting medicinal herbs

  • Prepping herbs for drying and processing

  • Assisting with/preparing for on-farm workshop/tour days/harvest days

Fall:

  • Harvesting medicinal herbs and roots

  • Prepping herbs for drying

  • Processing herbs for storage

  • Assisting with preparation of farm apothecary products

  • Assisting with/preparing for on-farm workshop/tour days/harvest days

  • Helping feed and maintain our worm bed, harvest castings

  • Prepping/composting beds for winter

  • Planting out garlic beds (November)
