Grocery store celery leaves and stalks will seem tasteless after growing your own. I harvest as needed rather than taking the whole head. Then I let this biennial overwinter and harvest the celery seed next season. Pollinators and beneficials love the flowers. Seeds are ready when they turn brown and fall off the stalks at the slightest disturbance. Again, store-bought celery seed is flavorless compared to your own. Seeds are an effective diuretic and have anti-inflammatory and antiseptic properties.
