Perennial. Extraordinary butterfly and bee attractor. NA native. Slow growing, but hardy and long lived.
Varieties:
Liatris spicata—called Gayfeather and Marsh Blazing Star, traditional spiked flower
Liatris aspera—Button Blazing Star, unique dotted buttons rather than a spike
Liatris ligulistylis—Meadow Blazing Star, largest variety up to 60”
Liatris scariosa—Northern Blazing Star, smaller growth 24”
